What is your role in the Electric Rodeo Circus ?
Clown / Underling / Creative artist and performer
Which influences have inspired your work in the show?
I’d say Terry Gillingham really influenced the first set of animations as well as monty python in general but beyond that I find it hard to remember influences exactly. The ‘Science of Sleep’ was a definite influence though probably quite a few of Michel Gondry’s films as I really like the aesthetic to his work.
I’ve always loved Res and Stimpy and the change in animation when they zoom in for gross humour and finally quiet possibly the aesthetic of Mighty Boosh (I really like things to look like they were made sacrificing finish and realism for a particular visual quality).
What's been the biggest challenge for you so far in this project?
There are two major problems I've faced on this project:
Learning to Animate and Film. Having previously done little to no animation or video work this has been a challenge especially as I can’t either think of ways to solve problems or work out ways to film so it will be easier to edit later down the production line.
Setting things in stone early. When I usually perform I like to have a lot of flexibility with stage timings incase I find moments or opportunities to play with the audience. Because all of my acts are set to pretty specific videos I no longer have the opportunity to play with timings (or at least have very little chance to).
What do you find most exciting about this show?
I’ve wanted to work with video for a while now so getting to create some of those ideas has been pretty exciting
